Assalamu Alaikum! I’m a convert woman & I want to visit my local masjid. I’m nervous to do something incorrect, I have no Muslim friends here. Are there rules or procedure for when you enter, how to enter, where you enter, etc? Thank you 🙏🏼

Wa Alaikum Assalam! First and foremost, congratulations on your journey into Islam. It’s wonderful to hear about your interest in visiting your local masjid. Feeling nervous is completely natural, but remember that mosques are welcoming places meant for spiritual growth and community.

When visiting a masjid, there are some general guidelines to keep in mind, but specifics can vary based on local practices and the type of mosque. Here are some tips to help you feel more at ease:

    1. Dress Modestly: For women, this typically means covering your body with loose clothing and wearing a headscarf (hijab). Men are also expected to dress modestly, typically wearing long pants and shirts that cover the shoulders.
    2. Remove Your Shoes: Mosques require you to remove your shoes before entering the prayer area. There will usually be shoe racks at the entrance for this purpose.
    3. Entrance: Some mosques have separate entrances for men and women. If this is the case, the entrances will usually be marked. If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to ask someone or observe where others are going.
    4. Prayer Area: In many mosques, the main prayer hall is primarily for men, and there may be a separate area designated for women. Again, this can vary, so look for signs or ask if you’re unsure.
    5. Respect the Prayer Times: If you do visit during prayer times, perform wudu and pray the salah.
    6. Connect with the Community: Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself to someone and mention that you’re a new convert and visiting for the first time. Many mosques have committees or individuals dedicated to helping newcomers and converts. They can provide you with valuable resources, support, and friendship.
    7. Ask Questions: If you’re unsure about anything, ask. The Muslim community is generally very supportive and will be more than happy to help you.

Remember, Mosques are places of worship and community, and you’re taking a beautiful step by wanting to be a part of that. May your visit to the masjid be a peaceful and enriching experience, Insha’Allah. 🙏🏼

Hello! Congratulations on your conversion! Mashallah! I am also a convert woman; and not many Muslim friends! If you’d like to connect, and learn together, I would love that! Inshallah! Welcome sister!

    Assalamu Alaikum Sister,

Mashallah congratulations on converting! I’m a convert brother myself.

At first it’s a bit scary to go to a masjid, but now the masjid is like my second home. I chill there, eat there, pray there!

the only things you should do is make wudu like normal, dress modestly, and put your shoes in the rack. Also remember when finishing prayer, don’t walk in front of someone who is still praying.

make sure that you introduce yourself to all the other sisters (they will most likely adore you) and maybe even say hello to some of the brothers or Imam. Just remember that the masjid is separated by sex, and that men are not allowed to enter the ladies side.

    allahuma baarik sister,

    have a lovely day.

No babes, there bo specific rules. As a convert, just show up there and I am sure people will welcome you. Ask questions and if u feel comfortable tell then that you are a convert , they will help u a lot. There are some duas that recommended to be read, but slowly u will learn, dont even stress about it.  step by step, no rush or pressure. Have good day, and make sure in these last ten days you do istiqfaar (astaqfurullah). It wipes away sins , and opend the doors or mercy for you.
